New Look, New Tenant: ‘The Hub’ Brings Fresh Energy to 150 Dee Street, Invercargill

TPG announces the arrival of Bargain Chemist alongside a major exterior upgrade and refreshed branding for one of Invercargill’s key commercial sites.

Project Overview

The commercial site at 150 Dee Street, Invercargill has entered an exciting new phase with a full exterior upgrade and a new identity — ‘The Hub’.

Formerly home to Farmers, the prominent double-storey property has undergone a significant redevelopment led by Pascoe Properties Ltd, one of the nine companies under Thompson Property Group (TPG).

Located near the corner of Dee and Leven Streets, The Hub now features a modernised façade, new canopy and feature signage, and improved access to create a vibrant, attractive environment for both tenants and visitors.

The Tenant: Bargain Chemist

TPG is pleased to welcome Bargain Chemist as the newest tenant at The Hub. The 100% Kiwi-owned and operated pharmacy chain has signed a lease to occupy approximately 700 square metres at the rear of the former Farmers building, with an expected opening in mid-January.

Bargain Chemist is known nationwide for offering a wide range of healthcare, beauty, and lifestyle products at affordable prices. Their Invercargill store marks another step in the brand’s national expansion, bringing fresh retail energy back to Dee Street.

“It’s great to see these spaces being filled again,” said Carla Meehan, Property Manager for Pascoe Properties. “The return of retail activity is positive for both Invercargill and our regional tenants.”

The Improvements

As part of the site’s transformation, The Hub has received a comprehensive upgrade designed to modernise and strengthen its street presence. Proposed works include:

  • new glass canopy and updated metal mesh screen with a green wall feature.
  • Refreshed façade cladding to enhance visibility and visual appeal.
  • ‘The Hub’ branding and directory signage, introducing a cohesive identity for the property and its tenants.
  • new pylon sign to strengthen visibility along Dee Street.

These improvements reflect TPG’s commitment to maintaining high-quality regional properties that attract strong national brands and enhance community engagement.

The Outcome

The redevelopment of The Hub and the arrival of Bargain Chemist signal a welcome revitalisation of the Dee Street retail area, following Farmers’ relocation to Esk Street in 2022. Pascoe Properties — which also owns the former Smith City building across the road, soon to house Hunting & Fishing— continues to invest in the rejuvenation of Invercargill’s retail landscape.

Through strategic upgrades and strong tenant partnerships, TPG is helping bring renewed energy, accessibility, and opportunity to Invercargill’s city centre.
