Sustainable Steps Forward: Solar and EV Charging Initiatives by TPG

Thompson Property Group continues its commitment to sustainable development with the installation of solar panels at Outlet City, Tawa, and new EV charging stations at Porirua Mega Centre.

Caring for Our Environment

At Thompson Property Group (TPG), we believe that responsible property ownership goes beyond maintenance and management — it’s about investing in solutions that support a cleaner, more sustainable future for our tenants, visitors, and communities.

This year, two key sustainability initiatives are being implemented across our regional portfolio:

Both projects reflect TPG’s commitment to reducing environmental impact while supporting the evolving needs of modern business and retail environments.

Solar Power at Outlet City, Tawa

At Outlet City, Tawa, rooftop solar panels are being installed to harness renewable energy and offset the site’s overall power consumption.

The system will help reduce the centre’s carbon footprint and improve energy efficiency — demonstrating how commercial properties can integrate sustainable energy solutions without compromising functionality or tenant experience.

This initiative is part of TPG’s ongoing effort to explore renewable technologies that lower operational costs and support long-term environmental goals.

EV Charging at Porirua Mega Centre

In Porirua, sustainability takes another step forward with the installation of DC fast-charger units by Du Power, a New Zealand company specialising in advanced electric vehicle charging systems.

These chargers provide fast, efficient power for EV users and add a valuable amenity for visitors and tenants at the Porirua Mega Centre.

By supporting the shift to electric transport, TPG is helping make regional retail destinations more convenient, connected, and environmentally responsible.

The Bigger Picture

From solar energy to EV infrastructure, these upgrades are part of TPG’s wider vision for a more sustainable property network across New Zealand’s key regional centres.

Through practical action and long-term planning, we’re working to create spaces that not only serve our tenants today but also help safeguard the environment for tomorrow.
